7 Eco-Friendly Cleaning Solutions For Your Spring Cleaning

It’s time for Spring cleaning again – yay!

Well, some of you may be more excited than others but there’s something to be said about giving your home a good going over.

It’s in the spirit of rebirth and renewal that we clean our homes in the Springtime. Scrubbing, wiping, disinfecting, vacuuming, dusting and scrubbing some more.

While it’s great to get that finished product of a sparkling, fresh smelling abode, there’s one thing about it that a lot of people don’t like – using all those chemicals.

Cleaning chemicals will undoubtedly do their job but they can also be harmful to the environment and our health – especially for children and people with allergies and certain sensitivities.

But did you know you can get your home just as clean with old-school environmentally friendly cleaning concoctions that your great-grandmother probably used when she cleaned her home?

It’s true. Not only are these mixtures better for the environment, you won’t be exposing yourself to harsh chemicals while getting your home cleaner than ever. Here’s what you’ll be usings:

  • Baking soda
  • Borax
  • Ammonia or Sudsy Ammonia
  • White vinegar
  • Dish soap (organic)
  • Essential oils (lavender, orange and lemon)
  • Spray bottles

So here’s the recipes for the miracle mixtures that will get your place clean and sparkling without the chemicals including ways you can use them.

Super Scrubber #1

With this miracle mix you can clean everything in your kitchen from the fridge to the sink and keep on moving to everything in your bathroom. Here’s how to make it:

  • Take a coup of baking soda and pour it into a bowl
  • Slowly add hot water while mixing it until it becomes a paste
  • Dip a wet sponge into the mixture
  • Use to wipe down your target

Super Scrubber #2

This will clean and disinfect everything – except the refrigerator.

  • one teaspoon borax
  • half teaspoon of washing soda (not baking soda)
  • one quart of warm water
  • one teaspoon of dishwashing soap
  • 4 -10 drops of essential oil (lavender, lemon, orange)

All-Purpose Cleaner

Clean any surface with this mixture you’ll put into a spray bottle:

  • 1 cup White Vinegar
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 tablespoon of dish soap
  • 30 drops Essential Oil (lavender, lemon, orange)
  • Spray bottle

Glass & Chrome Cleaner

Give your glass, mirrors and chrome a streak-free shine with this easy mix:

  • ½ cup white cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup rubbing alcohol (70%)
  • 1 – 2 drops of essential oil
  • 2 cups water
  • Spray bottle

Stone And Marble Countertop Cleaner

This mix will get your marble and stone countertops clean without harming them or the environment:

  • 2 – 4 drops of dishwashing liquid
  • 2 cups of warm water

Mix thoroughly then dip a damp sponge or rag in the mix and clean your countertop with it. Buff off the solution with a dry rag (you don’t want the solution to air-dry).

Note: Don’t clean marble or granite surfaces with acidic mixtures (containing lemon) – it will eat away the stone.

Grease Cleaner

Use this mix to cut grease in the kitchen, clean your oven or scour your grill.

Dip a sponge, mop or rag in the solution and get to cleaning.

Carpet Deodorizer

Get your carpets smelling fresh with this simple mix:

  • 2 – 4 drops essential oil (if desired, you don’t have to)
  • 1 box baking soda

Pour the box of baking soda into a mixing bowl. Put 2 – 4 drops of your favorite essential oil in then mix thoroughly. You can sift it from the bowl, transfer it to a large shaker or funnel it back into the box for use.

Vacuum your carpet before you put this down.

Sprinkle the mixture over your carpet and gently work it in with a dry sponge or scrub brush. Let it sit for several hours – it’s better if you can let it sit overnight.

Then vacuum it all up.

Bonus: You can also sprinkle this on your mattress, let it sit for a few hours then vacuum it up to have it smelling almost good as new.
